Grocery Store Favorites

Bread, White, for stuffing:  Trader Joe’s Mom’s White Bread

Bread, Whole Wheat for sandwiches:  Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat Bread

Bread, French, sliced:  Sumano’s Watsonville Sourdough.  Coast to Coast San Francisco Style Sourdough round is in second place, at half the price (available at Safeway).  Trader Joe’s Wheat Sourdough and Cracked Wheat Sourdough are also good.

Chocolate Chips:  Ghirardelli 60% Dark (no contest).  Guittard Bittersweet Chips are good added in, but are a bit too dark to be the only ones

Cough Medicine:  pure honey by the spoonful, and in your tea

Cream Cheese (Neufchatel):  Philadelphia, though Lucerne is just fine.  I like how the Philadelphia brand doesn’t stick to the foil wrapper.  Trader Joe’s is too tangy.

Fruit Preserves:  Smucker’s Simply Fruit: Apricot or Black Raspberry. Target has the best price.

Mayonnaise:  Best Foods (no contest).  Heinz is fine in a pinch.

Noodles for Chow Mein:  Nanka Seimen Yokogiri Udon (dry) (Sprouts)

Pasta Sauce:  Francesco Rinaldi Hearty Tomato & Basil (Sean & kids pick).  Muir Glen.

Pizza Crusts:  NOT Engine 2 Plant Strong Whole Wheat :o(

Popsicles:  Dreyer’s Fruit Bars:  pomegranate, blueberry, or grape

Pretzels: Trader Joe’s Multi-Grain Pretzel Nuggets

Salsa:  Trader Joe’s Double Roasted Salsa

Sausage (Breakfast):  Trader Joe’s Link Chicken Breakfast Sausages, Lunardi’s Pork Breakfast Sausage Links

Sour Cream (light): Knudsen or Daisy

Tea for a sore throat and/or cough:  Throat Coat

Tortillas, flour: Marcela Valladolid (a Safeway brand) but they don’t make them anymore!

Tortilla Chips: #1 : On the Border Cafe Style, #2 : Tostito’s Restaurant Style,

Yeast:  SAF Instant
