Deviled Chex Mix

Slightly modified from a recipe at

Makes 26 servings, 1/2 cup each.  For gifting: makes 7 2-cup bags.

3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon paprika
1 Teaspoon ground chili powder
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup canola oil
1 cup assorted unsalted nuts
3 cups Rice Chex
3 cups Corn Chex
3 cups Wheat Chex
1 cup small cheese crackers
1 cup Salty Stix pretzels
1 cup Wheat Thins OR 1 cup Pita chips:
1 whole wheat pita, split, spray with olive oil spray on cut sides, sprinkle lightly with Kosher salt, cut into 1″ squares, and baked at 250 degrees F for 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes.  Set aside to cool.  Leave the oven on…

In a small bowl, mix together the seasonings and set aside.
Pour the oil in a large roasting pan, and warm it in the oven.  Stir in the nuts and roast for a few minutes until fragrant. Add the cereals, pretzels, crackers and chips and stir well until evenly coated.  Sprinkle with the seasonings and stir until evenly coated.  Bake for 30-60 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.  Spread on paper towels to cool.  Store in an airtight container.
