White Frosting

Adapted from a recipe in “The Beany Malone Cookbook” by Lenora Mattingly Weber

Sam’s favorite!

Frosts one 9″ 2-layer cake (1″ layers)

1 stick salted butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla
scant 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons milk, cream or buttermilk
3  1/2 cups powdered sugar, run through a sieve, 1 cup at a time

Cream the butter until smooth.  Add the vanilla, salt and the milk, cream or buttermilk and beat thoroughly on low.  Add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, adding more milk, cream or buttermilk, 1 teaspoon at a time, as needed to achieve a soft and spreadable consistency.
