Sean’s Shiny Brownies

from the Parents Nursery School Cookbook, 1983 edition

1/3 cup butter
2 Tbsp milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup flour (I use whole wheat)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
12 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 cup nuts (optional)

In a saucepan, melt the butter, milk and sugar until boiling.  Stir in the vanilla and 3/4 of the chocolate chips.  Remove the saucepan from the heat.  In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt and soda.  Beat the eggs, one at a time, into the chocolate mixture.  Add the flour mixture, nuts (if using) and the rest of the chocolate chips and stir until combined.  Bake at 325 in a buttered 9×12 pan (or Baker’s Edge pan) for 30 minutes.
